About Troop 176

Troop 176 has been active since 1921. We meet weekly on Wednesday evenings and have many activities throughout the year. During previous outings, we have backpacked along the Appalachian trail, taken a bike/camping trip to Evansburgh State Park, skied at Shawnee Mountain, have been whitewater rafting on the Lehigh River, and had an adventurous week at Resica Falls Summer Camp.

Troop 176 seeks to advance our scouts by the consistent application of scouting principles. We look out for each other, and everyone else. We learn about knots, camping, other survival skills, and the importance of community service. We teach and enable team building, leadership, self-reliance, and independence. The camping trips are really fun.

Our Troop's first aid team won the council first aid competition for 2013. During the summer of 2017, several of our scouts and leaders spent ten days in the mountains of New Mexico at Philmont Scout Reservation. We have visited Philmont in the summer of 2022 with two crews and going back in 2023 with another crew/.

We are particularly proud of the 40+ Scouts from Troop 176 who have achieved the rank of Eagle since 2000. This is a perfect example of how we as a troop strive to give our Scouts an excellent experience that, even when they leave, will propel them forward in life.

To become a Boy Scout you must have either (a) completed the 5th grade and be at least 10 years old; or (b) turned 11 years old; or (c) earned the Arrow of Light Award; and you must be under 18 years of age.
