Scouting For Food - Adult Volunteer Needed

Posted on Oct 18 2017 - 8:44am

Attention Parents!  We are looking for an adult volunteer to coordinate our Scouting for Food service project.  The scouts distribute bags for food collection the week of November 1st and return to collect the bags of food at the next meeting (November 8th).  The adult will need to coordinate both of these activities and the delivery of the food donations to a local organization.  If interested, please contact Becky Klick or Scoutmaster Mark O'Donnell.

PA Volunteer Clearances

Posted on Oct 9 2017 - 10:56pm
This is a reminder to fill out your PA Volunteer Clearances right away. This helps ensure that the scouts will have a full program by ensuring we'll have a ready supply of parents to step in when needed. You show fill out the clearances and submit them by November 1.
Who needs to fill  out the clearances?:
1. Any parent assisting at a troop or event
2. Any parent who will go on a campout
3. Any parent who will drive on a campout or event (even emergency drivers who do not stay)
4. Any parent of a pending Eagle Scout -- you will need it to help at their Eagle project
5. Any one who is a registered merit badge counselor
6. Anyone who is on troop committee or a uniformed leader
7. Finally, we're asking 1 parent from each family to do it.
See the attached form for more information and links. Please check with  you grade-level parent first if you have questions.
Further information:-
VOLUNTEER CLEARANCES: PA has a new law requiring background clearances for volunteers working with children. This new law affects BSA, and all volunteers in scouting—including any parents attending or driving on camping trips and other events —will need to obtain these before helping on scouting events. If you plan to help with scouts this year on campouts or meetings (we hope you say "yes"), PLEASE START THE PROCESS NOW. Clearances may take minutes but some can take a couple weeks to clear.

--- The longer the delay in starting the application, the more people will crowd the system. Council encourages everyone to start NOW. See the attachment for details.
